Foundations of Upholstery is where many of our students start their journey. If you’ve ever thought:

“I’d love to learn upholstery properly…”

“I want something creative that’s actually mine”

“I need something flexible that fits around real life”

“I’m ready for a change but don’t know where to begin”

This is for you.

This course gives you a clear, structured and supportive way into upholstery — without the pressure of rigid weekly classes. Between June and December, you’ll receive one carefully guided upholstery module each month alongside delivered kit boxes containing your frames and upholstery sundries, so you can focus on learning and creating rather than spending hours sourcing materials.

Designed to fit around busy lives, the course allows you to learn at your own pace whilst still building real momentum, practical skills and creative confidence.

Alongside the practical upholstery training, you’ll become part of a small creative community of just 10 students, with live Monthly Studio Gatherings held on the first Thursday of every month at 7pm.

These sessions are about far more than upholstery techniques. Together we’ll discuss confidence, pricing work, fabrics, interiors, developing your own style, setting up a workspace, social media, dealing with clients, building a side hustle, overcoming self-doubt and everything that comes with building a creative future around upholstery.

All sessions are recorded and uploaded to your membership area with lifelong access, meaning you can learn in a way that genuinely fits around work, family and everyday life.

Whether you’re completely new, frustrated with trying to learn from random YouTube videos, or finally ready to make time for yourself creatively, this course gives you the structure, accountability and support to properly begin.

    • You want to learn a meaningful practical skill

    • You love interiors, fabrics and home styling

    • You’re curious about turning upholstery into something more

    • You’d love to build confidence making things with your own hands

    • You prefer learning through practical projects rather than endless theory

    • You’re looking for a supportive and inspiring creative community

  • This course is designed to help you properly nail the fundamentals of modern upholstery through seven practical makes plus three bonus theory modules.

The projects have been carefully chosen to maximise your learning whilst giving you transferable skills you can use far beyond the course itself.

By the end of the programme, you won’t just have “had a go” at upholstery…

    You’ll have:

    • 7 completed practical projects you’ll genuinely be proud of

    • A strong understanding of upholstery fundamentals

    • Sewing and finishing skills

    • Confidence using upholstery tools and materials

    • The ability to tackle your own projects independently

    • A solid creative foundation to continue building from

    • A skill that could become a hobby, side hustle or something far bigger

  • Throughout the course you will have three kit boxes delivered to your home containing all of the frames and materials to make:

    DROP IN SEAT DINING PAD

Let’s kick things off with the basics and hit the ground running. Working with a sample frame for a drop in seat pad for a dining chair. you’ll be introduced to all the tools of the trade. You’ll get to grips with the all-important staple gun and upon completion of day one you’ll be able to confidently prep and upholster seat pads. The skills you acquire in Module 1 are not just limited to dining seats. They are transferable to simple footstools, giving you a product range from day one!

    CONTEMPORARY STOOL

I designed this sleek and modern stool as a skill-packed powerhouse. Building on the skills from Module 1, we will master making and making and applying piping and sewing and applying a border; learning backtacking in the process.

    DEEP BUTTONED FOOTSTOOL

You'll craft your own deep-buttoned stool. From prepping and buttoning to precise fabric measurements, button application, pleating, and finishing touches – you’ll cover it all.

Plus all of the theory will be added to your online membership area to study at your own pace.

    FLUTED HEADBOARD

Meet the first of two headboards – not just a piece of furniture, but a canvas for skill-building. Why headboards? Simple. They're a fantastic and accessible gateway to learning new skills, and let's face it – they're all the rage in interior design right now.

Dive into the fluted style, and I'll walk you through some top-notch technical skills. And the best part? These skills are transferable, setting you up to conquer other fluting projects with ease.

    DRUM STOOL

The Drum Stool is the perfect interior design piece! Perfect as a stool, coffee table or side table. We’ll focus on some serious sewing skills.

    SQUARE BUTTONED HEADBOARD

Next up it’s the second of the two headboards. Whilst I’m teaching this as a headboard, square buttoning is a brilliantly versatile skill, which can be applied to sofas, chairs, footstools, benches and cushions!

    SEWN WINDOW BOX CUSHION

This module is a sewing masterclass. Wondering why you should master this technique? Well, it's not just about chairs; think window seats, camper van and caravan cushions, outdoor seat pads – you name it! While we've dabbled in some basic sewing in previous modules, now it's time to up the ante.

  • This course is taught online through a flexible monthly structure designed to fit around real life.

At the beginning of each month between June and December, a new practical upholstery module will be released into your online membership area.

You can then complete the module in your own time, at your own pace.

On the first Thursday of every month at 7pm, we’ll come together live online for our Monthly Studio Gathering.

These sessions are designed to support you beyond the practical upholstery itself and are where the course truly comes alive.

    We’ll discuss topics such as:

    • pricing work

    • confidence and self-doubt

    • sourcing fabrics and suppliers

    • interiors and trends

    • social media and branding

    • creating your own style

    • setting up a workspace

    • troubleshooting projects

    • side hustles and career pathways

    • dealing with clients

    • portfolio building

    • motivation and accountability

    • and everything that comes with building a creative future around upholstery
